After the steep incline, there were about a dozen steps down, a short, level path, and then a dozen steps back up. S had tried to go with us, but at that point, she opted to sit on a log and wait for us to come back. It was not too bad until about the last hundred yards, or so, when it became a steep incline. The path to the falls was, allegedly, a quarter mile. There were many beautiful trees there, as well as some that had fallen. And there were never more than about ten people there. I think those people have never driven in Texas.Īnyway, we made it to the small parking lot for the falls. I had seen some complaints on Trip Advisor about the road, but it wasn’t as bad as they made it out to be. The turn off to Munson Creek Falls started out as a narrow, paved road, but about halfway to the falls, it became a rough gravel road. We had not been south of Tillamook, yet, so we were treated to some scenic sites that we had yet to see.

We also got an order of their Mac & Cheese, which was delicious! C said it was “too cheesy.” I do not understand those words.Ĭentennial Grilled Cheese with Bacon, and Mac and CheeseĪfter lunch, we headed over to Munson Creek Falls, a short drive further south. C and S substituted white bread on theirs, and I added bacon to mine. All of us had their “Centennial Grilled Cheese” sandwich, which consisted of two kinds of cheese, sharp cheddar and medium white cheddar, grilled on sourdough. Then we roamed the gift shop, picking up a few things, after which we went to the cafe for lunch. We bought a hunk of their extra sharp white cheddar, aged four years! We haven’t eaten any of it yet. My favorite was the smoked medium cheddar.

Quite a few free samples, as it turns out, with varying ages of sharpness and flavors. There was an exhibit of some of the processes that led us to some free samples. There were, unfortunately, no tours of the cheese factory, at this time, because of construction. Normally, on vacations, we eat breakfast and dinner, only. We didn’t eat any breakfast, because we planned to have lunch at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. The day began with a drive to Tillamook, just a few miles from Rockaway Beach. Oregon is the most beautiful place I have been, up to this point in my life.Īlthough we didn’t drive as far, we walked more. We are content as can be with this vacation. We got back home at around 8:30 last night. I think that’s the best of all the pictures. We got closer to Twin Rocks and took some side roads.Ĭ took this while I wasn’t looking This must be where candy corn comes from The Port of Garibaldi There aren’t any pictures from Thursday, but we had a great time, just like all the other drives, it was a spectacular trip.įriday, C and I drove around and just took pictures. No tours, due to construction, but plenty of samples.įrom there, we traveled to Cape Meares, where my camera battery died.Īt Cape Meares, there is an “octopus tree” Wednesday, we visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Tuesday, we headed back in to Portland, where we stopped at Voodoo Donuts. That evening, on my walk, I encountered a convention of seagulls. We got an even better view of Twin Rocks. Monday, we took a stroll down south on Rockaway Beach.

I even got some shots of an almost full moon. You can see the ripples in the sand, along with the grooves made by objects that got in the way. The wind picked up, from the north, every afternoon around five o’clock. Several evenings, I went for a walk on the beach, before sunset. We also went to Ecola State Park, which provided some extravagant views of Cannon Beach, as well as a view of the Tillamook Lighthouse, also known as Terrible Tilly.Īnother nice park guest offered to take a picture of C and me. There was another rock formation on the other end of Cannon Beach. Sunday, we saw infamous Haystack Rock, featured in The Goonies. We were treated to some beautiful sunsets. Our house was within view of a rock formation called Twin Rocks. The thing we saw the most of, of course, is the Pacific Ocean. I just want to share some more photos that I was unable to upload because of the poor wi-fi service. I don’t intend to recap the whole week, here, as I have gone into detail in other blog posts. The drive through the Tillamook Forest is unbelievable. Along the way, we were greeted by some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. We landed in Portland Saturday evening, picked up our rental and headed for Rockaway Beach. It eventually proved to be one of our best vacations ever! This vacation started out by looking like it wasn’t going to happen.
